Chelsea
Overview
Chelsea features a vibrant downtown, with a mix of retail, galleries and eateries. During the summer months, downtown is the focus during the annual SummerFest, and during the weekly Sounds & Sights events scheduled from June to September. Chelsea Community Hospital is a fully accredited 113-bed acute care facility serving residents of Chelsea and surrounding communities. While an independent institution, Chelsea Community Hospital has collaborative relationships with the University of Michigan Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, both in Ann Arbor. Opportunities for recreation are many in the Chelsea area. Jointly, Chelsea Recreation and Chelsea Community Education offer a broad range of team sports, fitness workshops and other classes throughout the year. Chelsea is located at the edge of both the Waterloo and Pinckney Recreation areas, so a total of more than 30,000 acres of recreation land is available for the full range of outdoor activities, including camping, hunting, fishing, and hiking. Housing in Chelsea includes styles ranging from charming turn of the last century frame homes to newly built neighborhoods. In 2006, the average sale price of a single family home in Chelsea was $270,059; the median was $257,450.
