Dexter, Huron River
Overview
Dexter features a thriving village center with a number of appealing shops, as well as a downtown park with a large gazebo that is a favorite spot after a visit to the Dairy Queen across the street. During the summer months, a variety of events occur downtown, highlighted in August by much-anticipated Dexter Daze, which draws people from all over the county. Dexter’s housing stock is varied, with beautiful examples of Victorian architecture close in, and newer subdivisions around the edges. In 2006, the average price of a single family home in Dexter was $334,562; the median was $308,400.

A village of about 4,000 located eight miles west of Ann Arbor, Dexter is the unofficial gateway to the area's lakes and metroparks. Dexter’s restaurants and pubs are popular gathering points for those who’ve spent the day engaged in outdoor activity. Founded in 1824, Dexter is another of the county’s villages with an agricultural heritage. Although a few farms remain today, most of Dexter’s residents are business people and professionals working in Dexter, Ann Arbor or further east in the greater Detroit area.
